as a political science major, and as an aspiring law student, a certain amount of argument for the purpose of persuasion is pertinent. i enjoy a good romp around the issue, especially if you know what you are talkin about. but i hate. HATE. when people decided to attack you and the issue at hand. there is nothing wrong with being completely informed about your issue. but when you go on a rampage, expecting me to rebut every detail that you put forth, only to take my opinion as credible once all the evidence has been proven wrong, i dont particularly take interest anymore. because no matter how much you say its not an attack, thats exactly what it is.
ok now ill stop being vague and tell you the story. my friend made a comment on facebook about questioning a certain president's legacy. i made a comment back and a friendly jousting of opinions ensued briefly. then one of his friends, who happened to see our commentary, decided i needed some educating and messaged me a long, verbose, and quite negative argument against my position. i messaged him back, whereupon he requested that i answer all of his questions as a pretext to other questions he wanted to ask me. yes, im a smartalec so i refused and quipped back, to which he was not appreciative, but then again, i wasnt so keen about been verbally berated for revering a president that i was studying by some random douche bag (excuse my french) that was too wrapped up in his own opinionated superiority to afford a differing view some courtesy.
ok my rant is done now.

i agree- alot of people think ignorance is the greatest problem
i feel the unwillingness to accept other views is. Many people who are informed automatically assumed that anyone else who is informed would have the same views as them.
That view is far more dangerous that ignorance. The unwillingness to accept other views and interpretations, unfortunately its all too prevelant.
Umm...in other news, the Washington primary was actually worth a shit this year! Bad news...I didn't get a chance to vote. But Obama won in a landslide anyhoo.
I know better than to get Alex started on a political debate. Or a debate of any kind for that matter. She won't shut up. Some of it has to do with being well-informed and passionate...and a lot of it is pure stubborness.
Umm...I kinda want to make a blog, so we can blog back and forth, but it seems a little silly because you would probably be the only person who would read it.

hehe, well Alex, I just make it a point never to get into opinion battles... because i end up hating everyone's opinion... EVEN mine at the end of them. But thats just me... I find it funny that I'm in a rather politically charged major too.
Course then i get this looping sequence thing where I enjoy listening to multiple opinions but never offer mine or I end up offering a bunch of possible opinions never stating what mine is (if there is one). It is more like a vague multiple choice. Therefore I keep hidden but spread the spice around and play devil's advocate
I think its been a long day because I'm rambling, but its a blog so thats what they are for right?
